One common mistake with sending emails (or lack of it) is EGO.
Now let me explain…
I’m subscribed to over 200 email lists - I like to keep an eye on what's happening in
There are two types of email senders I come across.
Send regular emails, sharing their story, learnings, failures, courses, products, etc.
Show up once a month (or on special occasions) to announce a sale or new product launch.
The problem with showing up once in a while is…
It’s hard to remember why I joined their email list in the first place.
I have no emotional connection to their story or offering.
And they come across as entitled (yes really), here’s why…
The email is usually about, Buy this product for this much discount. And then go back in hiding.
Only to return a few months later, with a similar email.
Compare this with those who send out regular emails;
They tell stories.
Show their personality.
Talk about things other than themselves.
They share content that's helpful to their list.
They talk about what they’ve been working on.
Why their product/service would make sense for you to buy.
If you don’t buy it, they’ll politely ask why and how they can improve.
All this shows that one email sender is engaged with their list, and the other is just trying to make a sale.
And ironically, guess which one makes more sales through their emails?!
Don’t let your ego come in the way - make a connection with your email subscribers.
